Keeping a clean filter in your pool is only half of having a healthy pool. Keeping your pool chemically balanced is very important. In Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, and Boca Raton, it's important to maintain a balanced pool to prevent health problems and to keep pool/spa motors and other moving parts from wearing out to quickly. Pools that are not chemically balanced can be irritating and dangerous to swim in. The water may also appear cloudy or dirty.

Dangerous pathogens will grow in pool water if chlorine (or salt alternative) is not used. A chemical compound such as calcium hypochlorite (a solid) or sodium hypochlorite (a liquid) is generally used in most pool applications.

Start Up Chemistry (New Resurface Job)

1. Pre-filter the water with a carbon tank and use a sequestering agent to eliminate stain-causing contaminants.
2. Start the circulation system as soon as possible using the main drain line. Do Not start the system until the water level is above the return inlets. Circulate the pool continuously for the first 3 days.
3. On the first day test and record chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and temperature levels. Adjust pH to 7.2 to 7.4 and the Total Alkalinity to 100ppm. Dissolve all chemicals in water first and allow sufficient time for each chemical to be fully dispersed before adding others. Do Not add chlorine or calcium chloride.
4. Brush the entire surface once each day for the first 3 days. Clean the filter as needed.
5. On the second day, repeat steps 3 and 4 above.
6. On the third day adjust all the chemistry to the following levels: Free Chlorine: 1.0 to 3.0 ppm Ph: 7.4 to 7.6 Total Alkalinity 80 - 120 ppm Calcium Hardness: 200 - 400 ppm Stabilizer: 30 to 100 ppm.
7. Adjust the pump timer to normal operating hours.
8. Do not install automatic pool cleaners for 28 days.
9. Do not vacuum the pool with a wheeled vacuum for 14 days, to avoid leaving "Wheel Marks". Brush type vacuums may be used immediately.
10. Brush pool walls and floor daily or every other day for the first 2 weeks.
